Suffering and Persecuted Church

As Christians in the West, we often don't experience persecution. This is not the case for 40% of the world. In the book of Revelation, Jesus addresses the church in Smyrna which was being persecuted for their faith. What we can learn from Smyrna and the persecuted church of today?
